Constitution: India is a constitutional democracy with a written Constitution that provides for a federal system of government with a strong center. The Constitution of India was adopted on 26th January 1950.
Separation of Powers: The Indian Constitution provides for the separation of powers among the legislature, executive, and judiciary. This ensures a system of checks and balances where no one branch of government can become too powerful.
President: The President of India is the head of the state and is elected by an electoral college consisting of members of both houses of Parliament and state legislatures.
Prime Minister: The Prime Minister of India is the head of the government and is appointed by the President. The Prime Minister is usually the leader of the political party that has the majority in the Lok Sabha.
Parliament: The Parliament of India consists of two houses – the Rajya Sabha (Council of States) and the Lok Sabha (House of the People). The Rajya Sabha has 245 members, while the Lok Sabha has 545 members.
Judiciary: The Indian judiciary is independent and consists of the Supreme Court, High Courts, and subordinate courts. The Supreme Court is the highest court in the land and is headed by the Chief Justice of India.
Federalism: India is a federal country with a strong center. The Constitution provides for a division of powers between the central government and the state governments.
Fundamental Rights: The Indian Constitution guarantees fundamental rights to all citizens, including the right to equality, freedom of speech and expression, freedom of religion, and the right to life and liberty.
Directive Principles of State Policy: The Indian Constitution also contains directive principles of state policy that provide guidance to the government in the formulation and implementation of policies.
Elections: India follows a parliamentary system of government, and elections are held every five years to elect members to the Lok Sabha. The Election Commission of India is responsible for conducting free and fair elections.
