Hello Aspirants,
Nature Conservation Day, also known as World Nature Conservation Day, is an international holiday observed annually on July 28 to raise awareness of the importance of natural resources and the protection of the species and habitats of the planet.

The United Nations General Assembly declared the day in 2015, following the approval of a resolution submitted by Mauritius. The resolution called for a global biodiversity strategy and the creation of protected areas for all species, particularly those that are endangered or at risk of extinction.

The day is also used to draw attention to issues concerning habitat destruction and climate change, which puts a greater focus on protecting and conserving natural resources. Events and activities held by organizations, governments and individuals on Nature Conservation Day promote public awareness of the importance of proper conservation. Organizations, such as the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), will often promote sustainable living practices and raise funds to support conservation projects around the world.

There are a handful of threats that can make many species go extinct. Some of the examples are illegal wildlife trading, deforestation, mining, forest fire, single-use plastic, and other threats. We need to tackle these threats collectively. Natural resources must be preserved. Otherwise, it will be too late to cry for help. As humans, we should take every major step to protect the same.

We all know that natural resources are limited. We can not produce them. They are not in abundance either. Therefore, we must preserve and conserve natural resources for sustaining a stable, productive & happy human society.
Types of Natural Resources
Renewable Resources

Renewable resources are also known as flow resources. These are those natural resources that do not run out because they get replaced naturally. Some examples of renewable resources are solar energy, wind, biomass, etc.

Non-renewable Resources

Non-renewable resources include those resources which are limited in their quantity. Some examples of non-renewable resources are fossil fuels, minerals, groundwater, gas, etc.
Biotic

These are those resources that originate from the biosphere like living things. Some examples of biotic resources are birds, fish, grass, bacteria, moss, etc.

Use Water Wisely

Of the total water present on Earth, only one percent is available for human use. The rest of the water is salty or fresh frozen water. So we need to use water wisely. We should wastewater. We can also practice rainwater harvesting to save it for irrigation and other things that matter. This practice will help in minimizing the use of water from water bodies. Water is a precious resource and must be used wisely. Conserving water will help to preserve this important resource and keep water supplies safe and clean. To use water wisely, you should check for leaks in pipes, fixtures, and appliances; take shorter showers; limit flushing of the toilet; install low-flow faucets, showerheads and toilets; collect rainwater to water plants; and use native plants in your landscaping. Conserving water also helps to reduce electricity and fuel use and save money on utility bills.

Afforestation

Planting trees is a noble practice. This will help in reducing the incidents of soil erosion. It also helps to maintain ecological balance. It also helps in ecosystem restoration. Plants also can act as homes for many birds and animals. Therefore, it’s a good practice.

Use Wind And Solar Energy

We should replace our sources of energy with wind and solar energy. These are eco-friendly and cheap to use. Furthermore, these do not produce any harmful gases which can cause the depletion of the ozone layer. Wind and solar energy are two renewable energy sources that are becoming increasingly popular alternatives to traditional fossil fuel energy sources like coal. Wind energy is generated by turbines that capture the energy of the wind, while solar energy is generated by capturing the heat and light of the sun and turning it into electricity or heat. Both of these energy sources are environmentally friendly, as they don’t produce any emissions that could pollute the air or harm the planet. Additionally, both of these sources of renewable energy can significantly reduce energy costs, making them attractive alternatives for consumers, businesses, and public agencies.

Restrict usage of paper

Do you know where paper comes from? It comes from trees. So we can save such trees if we use less paper. We can use e-copies where ever necessary. It will be beneficial for our environment. In order to restrict paper usage, it’s important to reduce paper consumption in the workplace. This should include implementing greener practices such as double-sided printing and copying, and reusing paper. At the same time, employees should get into the habit of digitalising documents and investing in digital storage systems instead of relying on physical filing. Additionally, it is helpful to encourage people to only print documents when absolutely necessary and to opt for electronic communication instead. Lastly, investing in more efficient office tools, like scanning and fax machines, can help to minimise paper waste as well.

Spread Awareness

Last but not least, we must spread awareness about the conservation of nature and its resources. We should encourage people to use eco-friendly methods instead of those methods which degrade and pollute nature. We can also encourage them to use rain-water harvesting methods to help nature and its resources bloom.
