Ratio and Proportion in Hindi for SSC CGL
Hello aspirants,
Ratio:
A ratio is a comparison of two or more quantities. It shows how many times one quantity is greater or smaller than another.
Ratios can be represented in different forms: as a fraction, with a colon (e.g., 2:3), or as a decimal.
Ratios should be simplified to their simplest form. For example, the ratio 6:8 can be simplified to 3:4 by dividing both numbers by their greatest common divisor, which is 2 in this case.
Proportion:
A proportion is an equation that states that two ratios are equal. In other words, it’s a statement that shows the equality of two fractions.
If a/b = c/d, it can be written as “a is to b as c is to d” or “a:b = c:d”.
Cross-multiplication can be used to solve proportions. If a/b = c/d, then ad = bc.
Direct Proportion:
Two quantities are in direct proportion if they increase or decrease together in such a way that their ratio remains constant.
If y is directly proportional to x, it can be represented as y = kx, where k is the constant of proportionality.
Inverse Proportion:
Two quantities are in inverse proportion if an increase in one quantity leads to a decrease in the other quantity in such a way that the product of the two quantities remains constant.
If y is inversely proportional to x, it can be represented as y = k/x or yx = k, where k is the constant of proportionality.
Application in Real Life:
Ratios and proportions are used in various real-life situations such as cooking (recipes), finance (interest rates), maps (scale), and engineering (gear ratios).
They are essential in solving problems involving rates, percentages, and scaling.
Example Problems:
If a recipe calls for 2 cups of sugar for every 3 cups of flour, what is the ratio of sugar to flour?
If a car travels 240 miles in 4 hours, what is its speed in miles per hour?
If it takes 6 workers 8 days to complete a project, how long would it take 9 workers to complete the same project?
Remember, practice is key to mastering ratios and proportions. Solve a variety of problems to solidify your understanding of the concepts and their applications.
