1. Parts of Speech:
Nouns: Naming words for people, places, things, or ideas.
Pronouns: Words that replace nouns (e.g., he, she, it, they).
Verbs: Action words that describe what someone or something is doing.
Adjectives: Words that describe or modify nouns.
Adverbs: Words that modify verbs, adjectives, or other adverbs.
Prepositions: Words that show relationships between other words (e.g., in, on, under).
Conjunctions: Words that connect words, phrases, or clauses (e.g., and, but, or).
Interjections: Words or phrases used to express emotions (e.g., wow, oh no).
2. Tenses:
Present, past, and future tenses express when an action takes place.
Each tense has simple, continuous, perfect, and perfect continuous forms.
3. Sentence Structure:
Sentences are composed of subjects (who or what the sentence is about) and predicates (what the subject does or is).
Sentences can be simple, compound (joining two independent clauses), or complex (including an independent clause and one or more dependent clauses).
4. Subject-Verb Agreement:
Verbs must agree in number (singular or plural) with their subjects.
5. Articles:
“A” and “an” are indefinite articles used with non-specific nouns.
“The” is the definite article used with specific nouns.
6. Active and Passive Voice:
In active voice, the subject performs the action. In passive voice, the subject receives the action.
7. Direct and Indirect Speech:
Direct speech reports someone’s words exactly (“She said, ‘I am going'”).
Indirect speech reports someone’s words indirectly (“She said that she was going”).
8. Gerunds and Infinitives:
Gerunds are verbs ending in “-ing” used as nouns (e.g., “I enjoy swimming”).
Infinitives are the base form of a verb preceded by “to” (e.g., “to swim”).
9. Modal Verbs:
Modal verbs express possibility, necessity, permission, or ability (e.g., can, could, may, might, must, shall, should, will, would).
10. Relative Clauses:
– Clauses that provide additional information about a noun in the sentence.
– They are introduced by relative pronouns (e.g., who, whom, whose, which, that).
