1. Parts of Speech:
Nouns: Words that name people, places, things, or ideas.
Verbs: Words that express actions, states, or occurrences.
Adjectives: Words that describe or modify nouns.
Adverbs: Words that modify verbs, adjectives, or other adverbs to provide more information about how, when, where, or to what degree.
Pronouns: Words that take the place of nouns to avoid repetition.
Conjunctions: Words that connect words, phrases, or clauses.
Prepositions: Words that show the relationship between nouns or pronouns and other words in a sentence.
Interjections: Words or phrases used to express emotions or reactions.
2. Sentence Structure:
Subject: The main noun or pronoun that the sentence is about.
Predicate: The part of the sentence that contains the verb and provides information about the subject.
Clauses: A group of words containing a subject and a predicate. There are two main types: independent (can stand alone as a sentence) and dependent (needs an independent clause to form a complete thought).
Phrase: A group of words that functions as a single unit but lacks a subject or predicate.
3. Verb Tenses:
Present Simple: Used for general truths, habits, and actions that are true in the present.
Present Continuous: Used for actions happening right now or around the current time.
Present Perfect: Used for actions that started in the past and have a connection to the present.
Past Simple: Used for actions that happened and were completed in the past.
Past Continuous: Used for actions that were ongoing in the past.
Past Perfect: Used for actions that happened before a certain point in the past.
Future Simple: Used for actions that will happen in the future.
Future Continuous: Used for actions that will be ongoing in the future.
Future Perfect: Used for actions that will be completed before a certain point in the future.
4. Sentence Types:
Declarative: Makes a statement or gives information.
Interrogative: Asks a question.
Imperative: Gives a command or makes a request.
Exclamatory: Expresses strong emotion.
5. Agreement and Consistency:
Subject-Verb Agreement: The subject and verb in a sentence must agree in number (singular or plural).
Pronoun-Antecedent Agreement: Pronouns must agree in number and gender with their antecedents (the nouns they refer to).
6. Active and Passive Voice:
Active Voice: The subject performs the action.
Passive Voice: The subject receives the action.
7. Punctuation:
Commas: Used to separate items in a list, set off introductory phrases, and indicate pauses.
Semicolons: Used to connect related independent clauses or items in a list when they already contain commas.
Colons: Used to introduce a list, explanation, or quotation.
Quotation Marks: Used to enclose direct speech or quotations.
Apostrophes: Used to indicate possession or to form contractions.
Periods: Used to end declarative and imperative sentences.
Question Marks: Used to end interrogative sentences.
Exclamation Marks: Used to end exclamatory sentences.
